The notch

News comes to the top of the screen, then goes. Only when there’s something to say.

The notch is where fab tells you things without a window. When talk takes longer than usual, it says so and counts. While you talk, Hush shows what it quieted on each of your Macs, and says All back when you’re done.

It only shows when there is news, and it is easy to send away: hover for the ×, swipe up, or press esc.

Every state

What the notch can show you.

Writing it down

When talk takes a moment, the notch says so and counts the seconds.

Written down

The words landed. The notch says how long it took, then folds away.

Hushing

While you talk, which apps were muted or muffled, on each of your Macs.

All back

You let go and everything you were hearing comes back.

How do you mute it?

Once, never mid-take: for an app fab can’t mute yet, press its shortcut and fab learns it.

Pairing

Four words on both Macs to pair them for Hush.

Keys

What your hands do.

esc
Send it away. Hovering shows a ×, and a swipe up works too.

Behind it

What fab does with it.

  1. Something happens

Talk is slow, Hush quiets an app, or another Mac wants to pair.

  2. Show

fab brings it to the notch at the top of your screen.

  3. Fold

It goes on its own, or as soon as you send it away.

Worth knowing

The small things it gets right.

  • It only appears when there is news. Otherwise it stays out of the way.
  • Hush’s line shows each app on each Mac, so you can see what it touched.

Try it on your own Mac.
