Privacy Policy
What fab keeps, and where.
DraftLast updated
The fab apps and this website handle information differently, so this page takes them one at a time. The short version: your voice and your screenshots are turned into text and pictures on your own computer and stay there. The website collects what you type into its forms, and uses Google Analytics to count visits.
Who we are
fab is made by Arach Tchoupani (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the fab apps for macOS and Omarchy and the website at fab.run, including its signup and contact forms. For a question or a request about your information, use the contact page.
In the apps: what stays on your computer
fab records your voice only while you hold the talk key, or while hands-free listening is on, and writes your words down on your computer. Screenshots, screen recordings and markup are made on your computer too.
Your History (what you said, what you grabbed, where it was pasted, and the demo videos made from them) is stored on your computer. We don’t run a server that receives your recordings, transcripts, screenshots or History, and the apps contain no advertising or analytics trackers.
On a Mac you can delete a take from History at any time. Removing fab together with its data deletes the rest from your computer.
In the apps: when they go online
The apps use the internet for a few specific things:
- Update checks. Once a day the Mac app asks dl.fab.run whether a newer build is out. Like any web request, this shares your IP address and the app’s version.
- Downloads. The app, its updates and the voice model are downloaded from dl.fab.run, GitHub, or the model’s publisher, which see the usual details of a download request.
- Your own devices. If you pair devices, for example to hush them while you talk or to talk through one into another, they connect to each other directly over your network. That link runs between your devices, not through a fab server.
- Where you send things. When fab pastes into an app, or hands something to another app or service because you asked it to, that app or service receives it and handles it under its own privacy policy.
On the website
Analytics. fab.run uses Google Analytics to understand how many people visit and which pages they read. Google collects details such as the pages you view, the page that sent you, your approximate location, and your device and browser, and may set cookies to do so. When a form is sent successfully we record that it happened, without your email address or message. Google’s handling of this data is described in its own privacy policy.
Hosting. The site is served by GitHub Pages, which, like any web host, receives your IP address and browser details when you load a page.
Signup and contact forms
Updates list. When you sign up, we keep your email address on our updates list with our email provider, Resend, send you one confirmation, and later write to you when there’s a new build or news about fab.
Contact form. Your email address and message are delivered to us by email so we can reply. Sending a message doesn’t add you to the updates list.
Both forms run on a small service at forms.fab.run, hosted by Cloudflare. To stop duplicate and abusive submissions it limits how often one IP address or email address can send, and keeps a one-way fingerprint of each submission and a delivery receipt. It doesn’t keep your address or message itself; those are held by Resend and in our inbox.
How we use information
We use what we collect to answer your messages, send the updates you asked for, keep the forms working and free of abuse, and understand how the site is used so we can improve it.
We don’t sell your information. We share it only with the services named on this page that help us run fab and the site, or when the law requires us to.
How long we keep it
Your address stays on the updates list until you leave it or ask us to remove it. Contact messages are kept for as long as we need them to help you and follow up. Analytics data is kept according to the retention setting of our Google Analytics property. The services named here also keep their own records under their own policies.
Your choices
- Leave the updates list with the unsubscribe link in an update email, or ask us through the contact page.
- Ask to see, correct or delete what you sent us through the forms, through the contact page.
- Block or limit analytics with your browser’s privacy settings, a content blocker, or Google’s analytics opt-out add-on.
- Turn off fab’s microphone, screen recording or accessibility access at any time in your system settings.
Security
The forms only accept submissions sent from fab.run, over an encrypted connection, and the services named here protect what they hold. No service on the internet can promise perfect security, so please leave passwords and other private account details out of messages.
Children
fab and this site aren’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has sent us information, tell us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
We’ll update this policy when what fab or the site collects changes, and change the date at the top of this page when we do.
